A New Best Friend
"Would you like a doll, little girl?"
"Oh, yes,Santa, I would," said she.
"Could she please have a golden curl?
I've never had a doll you see."
And so she had a new best friend
Who went with her everywhere.
She swore to keep her to the end,
And promised her all things to share.
She held her hand and called her Sue,
And learned the feeling of caring.
She kept on loving as she grew
For she found the gift of sharing.
The girl grew to be very old.
Memories dwindled to a few.
"I've had a good life I am told -
I know I had a doll named Sue."
