A Moron and a Putz

"When power leads man toward arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations." John F. Kennedy Arrogance is such an egotistical trait; one I cannot abide Ignorance, I can excuse, but not those puffed up with pride Pompous people sing their own praises in snooty songs Their sharp tongues exposing them as pathetic ding dongs Cocky ones enjoy clawing at people, hoping for surrender Hiding behind the facade of a mask is a worthless pretender They try to steal the dignity of others, as though out for blood Tearing at their emotions like peeling petals from a rose bud Until someone comes along to drag them off their high horse and reveals their tyrannical ways with little exertion or force With puckered lips they chomp at people like a big mouth bass and for thinking I'm naive, they deserve a boot up the a s s Always acting smug, their spouting and spewing is notorious Conceited megalomaniacs who think they are vainglorious Pretentious in manner and speaking, but absolutely boring Picking fights just to be rebellious, belligerent and warring. Does such behavior make them feel important and influential? I see them as venomous snakes, whose lives are inconsequential One day ego will prostrate them, landing them flat on their butts Each haughty one I prefer to label an insolent moron and a putz. Congratulations on your win. As a child, I did not understood the kids and how mean they could be. As an adult I do not understood them. People just love to be mean to others. Guess mean kid turn into mean adults. Guess it is just part of life. Yesterday, I had this mean lady/talk at a store. No customer service any more. Have a blessed day writing away................

I love your title. Reminds me of Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau in Grumpy Old Men. I'm not up to speed on the nature and background of the inspiration for this poem and several others you have shared, but can agree with your well crafted sentiments.

Someone commented on another such write that 'ignorance is bliss,' and in this case if you haven't been bothered by such people, you're doing just fine. Thanks so much for commenting, Kenneth.

How kind of you, Deb. I tested positive last Sunday. It was such a nasty Christmas gift, but a fairly mild case. I'm feeling fine today. Thanks for your concern and for commenting. A little vocabulary challenges are always worth the research. Yes, the poem was written about a few characters who fit the tale's descriptions, wittingly portrayed.

Well thought and presented! So many writers presume they are experts without appreciating there are even more "experts" on Soup - or without checking their "facts" - but disparaging others is a Trump idiosyncracy which should always be discouraged. Hau'oli makahiki hou! Aloha!

Hi Rico, and thanks for your Happy New Year wishes and your insightful thoughts on this subject. The site would be so pleasant if a bellowing few would end their way of thinking they're right and everyone else is wrong.

Jenna, I believe we could all be tarred with the same brush depending on what concepts, theories, or belief systems we embrace or deplore. As "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" so is "righteousness" in the heart of the believer. ((not looking for a fight...just voicing an opinion))

John, I fail to see anything righteous about an arrogant person, one who is haughty in word and deed. The bone I'm picking has nothing to do with concepts, theories, or beliefs. It's about people who act like they are better than everyone else and don't hesitate to condemn others with malicious acts. There is no reason to fight over opinions. I have mine...you have yours.

Way to go Jenna, They cherrypick a few random snippets of obscure news, then highlight and exaggerate it to try give themselves some credibility, your poem blows this crap out of the water from all directions, they really do suffer delusions of grandeur, I enjoyed this wonderful no holds barred exposé, happy new year, cheers David

David, I see it all the same way you do, and to have given more examples, I'd have written far more than space allowed. I love the way you and Tom support those who speak out against the arrogant ones who loom about the rooms in PS. Thanks for your support.

Thank you SOooo very much, Tom. Their actions usually wind up bursting their own bubbles. I appreciate your hope for my good health. I'm still quarantined for a couple of more days after my positive covid test, but I'm feeling fine. My hopes for you in the New Year are filled with health and happiness for you and your loved ones. Hugs for you!
