A Mile and a Half of Scars

My scars are roadmaps to a past
of places I thought I belonged
of places I never should have gone to
and to where I never had a chance to belong.
A particular path led to a place of grand spirit and beauty
now silenced and long since overgrown.
The footprints turning to stone.
