A Man's Life

Oh, somewhere there is singing Somewhere there is grace Somewhere there is laughter A smile on every face But I am here to tell you About a place so cold and drab It makes you shiver violently And dulls the joy you have This place is not in the Heavens It is not upon the land It’s not over the oceans And it’s hard to understand As long as I walk the earth It is always set apart There’s nothing more mysterious Than what’s in a woman’s heart You think that you are pleasing You think you do what’s right But you never had a chance You end up in a fight So I tell all you poor men Don’t even pretend to try Just live your life and stumble on And hope that soon you’ll die

This is good. I like your fourth stanza. The last one is good but sad. Things are not always bad. Ther times of joy too. Smile - tomorrow is a new day.....Lucilla

Thank you for your kind comments. this poem actually convinced of wife of 39 years to accept my marriage proposal back in 1975. I guess she took it as a sign of surrender.
