A Magical Winter's Day
'Twas a morn of sundry chill, that followed a tempestuous night;
The frost adorned each tree; in truth, it coated all in sight.
The snow-cover'd branches glistened in the morning light; the barn did peep beneath a deep blanket white.
I seiz'd my winter garbs and hasten'd to the door; the joy within my breast did spill, I scarce could ask for more.
The frigid aer did prick my cheek with greet of sudden chill; but warmly clad I stood, and thought on it no ill.
Mine eyes adjusted to the blaze as I survey'd the ground; Such snowy vistas wrought in me a joy that did abound.
I peer'd unto where the road had been, a task hard in blinding glare; the night's deep snow had hid the truth that e'er a path was there.
To others it seem'd lab'rous, a task of much ado; but filled with eager spirit was I, and ne'er a thought of rue.
Upon the door of barn thrown wide, my heart did fill with mirth; the equine beauty found within, of greater cherished worth.
To save the warmth I shut the door, and gaz'd upon my pair; with loving heart I set to task, a tender, solemn care.
With task complete, I set to hitch my team, with hooves on floor a-clop; Their spirits high did seem to beam, they yearned no whit to stop.
I led them forth, each one in turn, and tether'd to the sled; The snow did make it seem to beam a vibrant, fairest red.
I gathered up the reins, and placed them safe inside; The bench with blankets warm was set for those who wished to ride.
Our journey we began anon, with cheeriness at hand; through deepest snow where once the road did lie upon the land.
I greeted neighbours, each one in turn, whilst I was on my way; and loaded up their children all upon my crimson sleigh.
As we traversed o'er snowy mounds, the children squealed with glee; this the smallest alm I willingly gave to them for free.
As the day concluded, witness'd by the setting sun; we headed back to hearth and home, our fulfillment now was done.
With tiredness upon my frame, the horses laid on hay; I knew I'd hold this memory fast, of this magical winter's day.
