A Lover's Lie

A Lover's Lie You have forsaken this wounded lover and 'neath silence's veil waste no reply. But you know certain sweet words unspoken in your heart that gives your silence the lie. In your warm bed you did know me and with damp eyes shining bade me not fly; yet with your ardor banked and cooling, you deny me, giving your bed the lie. By your own hand the wound is given, with such words my complaint you would deny; but your silence is the cruel blade rending my heart, giving your words the lie. Bread has been broken between you and I, sweet passion's fruit shared with sated sigh, and dry, red wine has passed our lips, spurring our fervor, giving doubt the lie. Yet your silence remains unbroken, and I know that you will never say why. But I know your secret, the fear it holds-- you deny your love, giving it the lie.
