Notes About The Poem

A Lidl Bit Odd - a True Story

A visit to Lidl, can seem like a riddle
But I like to browse through the aisles in the middle
Where you may find farmyards and little toy zoos
Right next to pair of size 5 ladies shoes

The range in the middle seems muddled and weird
The padlocks sit next to a small plastic beard
But I’ve just discovered the madness had spread
The grocery aisles have messed with my head

If you have gone there to chat up female singles
You will not impress with their own branded Pringles
Their fresh eggs are packaged like nothing I’ve seen
Who buys their eggs in a pack of fifteen

It does make some sense to have band-aids for bunions
But what is the purpose of onion-less onions

I remember laughing out loud at seeing..get this..a unicycle for sale (boxed) in the middle aisle at my local Aldi some years back. I wrote about it on Facebook only to be told that there was a world unicycle competition going on 10 miles away. I digress. Great poem TF..... I take it there was nothing for sale on the onion-less onions shelf? :) Cheers - Gary

Actually, Gary, your interpretation would make sense. However, study the spring onions in my photograph actually taken in Lidl. They’ve trimmed the onions up by removing the actual onion. Numpties or what? Terry

Well if you will go skiing in the jungle... our nearest Aldi is about eight miles away, and on the Isle of Wight that’s like the other side of the world! Terry

Supermarkets have found it to be very profitable to sell fruit and vegetables that simply resemble fruit and vegetables, so you will buy other products to provide taste and nutrition. Enjoyed!

Disgruntled IOW housewife testing her knackering skill, or disgruntled Aldi employee practicing voodoo?

These resembled veg alright... they resembled salad onions without the onion. Literally the bit you usually throw away. Glad you enjoyed, Rico. Terry

The thing is, I felt a bit self conscious photographing veg in the store so I grabbed the first two bunches. Some were way worse, literally just the green... I mean, how does that even happen? Glad you enjoyed my shopping exploits, Jan. Terry
