A Letter Home

A soldiers letter home, Words to real to be true Writing of love and happiness, to the girl he left behind! All while thoughts of war and death lie on his troubled soul He speaks of dreams, their future together Though it’s the nightmares of fallen comrades that haunt his sleep! He repeatedly reassures her he will come home safe But at night, thoughts of death bring the tears he holds inside. He tells her he longs for the warmth of her touch Not knowing, deep down he shivers at the thought of the warmth brought by hot lead piercing a man’s flesh. He takes her mind off war, telling her he can hear her voice when he lies alone When it’s the sound of bombs and gunshots that fill his sleepless nights Easing her worries he tells her he can visualize them together when he returns home While it’s his own grave he sees when he closes his eyes! The real meaning, of a soldier’s letter home Words to real to be true!
