A Last Farewell
A last farewell
Through the door where only memories lie
And webs adorn the corners of the hall
Begging letters strewn across the floor
No need to give a warming warning call.
A cup and saucer stained with life's last sip
Stray crumbs still mark a final earthly meal,
Wilted plants that look for brighter days
In search of life a lonely heart might feel.
The table hosts a final lucid act
A crossword, cryptic, done with shaking hand,
Pictures hang no longer to be seen
While ornaments in silent tribute stand.
Washed out curtains dim the coming day
As shadows dance on carpets frayed and worn,
Tomorrow brings a farewell all will join
Reflecting life, where all will sit and mourn.
