A Last Encore
A Last Encore
Radiant shafts of light pierce the altar window
As memories, fragmented, slowly come of
Years long gone yet not forgotten,
For we knew each other well.
All gathered today
In memorial attire
Recall nothing of what we shared.
Ballads, country, rock, they
Roll around in my head
As I remember the backing I gave,
Side by side,
Stage right, every night.
Audiences enthralled by melodies
Known to all,
And always wanting more.
Separate lives from those of the day,
Unknown to that world,
Makes the telling seem strange.
Maybe a future venue awaits
Ensuring friendship and music never die,
Ray and I, together again,
Summers and Winters.
