A Jealous Bard

Flowers, in the vase, by the window, let me know He had come by again with loving feelings to show Did he whisper sweet nothings in your ear this time? Did he read you poetry or can he even rhyme? Realize, those flowers you place there to let me know Will one day whither, and be gone even though I keep on coming back in hopes you will see This love that I have is this poet’s misery. The pain you inflict, showing flowers for all to see Others know the pain, what you do now to me. Fret not, oh dear loved one, for I will return In hopes of reading my words, again you to yearn. Let me be the bard of your days, lover of nights Let me speak softly in your ear, hold you tight. Let me quote the many poets from before our time Reciting love’s sweet nothings penned in my own rhymes. Cast him out, the one who comes to steal your heart away. Throw the flowers to the floor, giving me chances today. When I knock, with my flowers and a poem there for you Let me know you love me and do those things you do.

This poem is heart wrenching...so many sad songs are written about unrequited love, but none with more desperate emotions than this poem. Very moving! Fondly,, Carrie

Nice use of rhyme to forward your thoughts in this poem. You may want to classify it as rhyme instead of I don't know--as the policy states that the staff at The Soup doesn't read poems not classified. Nice flow to this one. Thank you for sharing it and for your ongoing support. Have a good day! Karen Karen
