A Heart As Black As Coal
When skin was smooth and wrinkles few
the doors all opened up for you
And though your heart was black as coal
It mattered not, to reach your goal
Yet hearts that shine with beauty’s glow
are worth much more than you could know
And now that silver knows your name
you only have yourself to blame
With spots of age and tattered brows
and skin that bloats of fatted cows
What good now, a mirrored gaze
left behind, your younger days
But kindness says, it’s not too late
a heart can grow beyond its fate
So lift your love and clear your head
and from within you’ll glow instead
