A Happy Poem

Tell me,
Tell me to write a happy poem
And I’ll do it an injustice.
Tell me to do a sad one
And I’ll excel at it.
Is it me, or is it the poem?
I keep asking.

Tell me,
Tell me to live a happy life
And it will be a disaster.
Tell me to do a sad one
And I’ll excel at it,
Is this where I seek motivation?
I keep asking.

Tell me,
Tell me to perform a happy poem
And I’ll suck at it.
Tell me to do a sad one,
And I’ll excel at it
Is it fear, or is it just a norm?
I keep asking.
