Notes About The Poem

I have just removed the word  'and'  from the second line of the above write I think it works a little

better..'  Joe..

A Hampshire Day In May 1976

The damp night had brought a pearly dawn
Lush green grass stood ankle deep late morn
And there glistening sleek stood a brand new Rolls
In chocolate brown metallic, over seamless gold.
A group of people are looking on,
It must have cost a good deal said one, come on!
It cost ten thousand the young man said
There were intakes of breath, and the shaking of heads.
I am just back from the states another man said
Over there that’s $25,000, the conversation went dead.
The year is now 2010; $10,000 would not buy a Mercedes-Benz
Or even a small Ford (with extra on loan) or it might pay you
8 months rent, it’ll depend on your “zone”.

Congrats on this selection, Joe, one I haven't seen. Yes, I was looking at a little, sawed off new car the other day that sells for $16,000. I just spent $2000. 00 on my old 95 V.W. Golf, hoping for another 100 thousand miles. If gas goes any higher here in MI I might be taking the bus. Thanks for reading my stuff. My eyes are so bad that I can't spend much time on the computer, so be patient with me please. Love, daver
