Notes About The Poem

it remains between God and I, this greater good.

A Greater Good

A GREATER GOOD

Have you ever just went with your gut,
obeyed your heart and not your head,
The thought was settled what you would do,
while lying quietly on your bed.

Have you ever in the silence of night,
felt a compelling in your soul,
saw a bigger picture, a greater good,
for a greater story told.

A thing only within your power,
to do or not to do,
without permissions or making a fuss,
just because it’s right to you.

A decision in between the lines,
lines that never were that day,
Free the entangled, give up your right,
look the other way.

Give the vote that makes the difference,
at the close of a given day.
When the scales of justice would lean too hard,
regardless of who’d tearfully pay.

You know that there's a greater weight,
for the very thoughts you choose to chide,
You close your eyes, cut out your heart,
without one show of bragging pride.

For no other reason than for love,
because you really know you should,
For a better end than a tragic story,
for a greater good.

Ok Lord, I will do it,
only you know best,
Once I do, can’t undo it
My no, now becoming a yes,

Hope and pray they’ll all know what it means,
Don’t know If it’ll ever be understood
Things not always as it seems
But there’s this hope for a greater good.

Following one's heart can be painful, especially if the mind is telling you something else. Love must be mutual. I enjoyed reading you today, Lovie.
