A Giveaway

The gaudy beauty of the villas with
new money blazons on the pediments,
the Moon over the garden, the sea breeze,
orchids in bloom - they're all the elements

of the confusing game to lure me to
a point of no return. The sweetest lies,
the jewelry of tears, big and true
enough to kiss them - that's what underlies

your game of love. Please, add a little more
of candlelights reflected in your eyes,
a nightingale, a bit of the Dalmore*,
a swarm of cupids in the starry skies,

et voilà! Before this little verse
comes to its final stanza, I will bring
at your sweet feet the whole universe
with a tamed star of the engagement ring.

You checkmate me… I hope, my fiancee,
will never know I played at giveaway.

* A brand of whiskey.

Kurt, congratulations on your Honorable Mention Win in the Invitation to Play contest. I enjoyed the game of love and loss played around your fiancee, very witty. There were so many good poems that it got down to a just thanks standoff.

A "confusing game" for sure, but one hopefully you have mastered! Ha! Your fiancee probably knows you well by now.

As they say, ''What she doesn't know won't hurt her." Very intriguing tango presented here. Reads like love blended with Russian Roulette, if I may say so. :) gw

Ah, my dear friend, the game of love has never been so poetically expressed nor so exquisitely lamented. Every line is a gem of creative brilliance to be cherished. You continue to take my breath away with the depth and breadth and beauty of your magnificent metaphors and your splendid artistry. Your imagery never fails to capture my heart and imagination, Kurt, ‘the jewelry of tears’ - WOW! A fabulous fav! Warmest wishes always my inspiring friend.. ~Susan
