A Friendship of Beauty
I heard you
I listened
Your call so undeniable
Your presence so magnificent
I stood still
Under the tree
The rain fell
The wind bristled
Hours past
Silent anticipation
You appeared
Wing beats sounded your presence
Settling on the dead free
I watched your behaviour so intently
You looked round
You saw me
You concentrated your eyes on me
You stayed still
I looked back
You had no fear
You knew I wouldn’t attack
You rested under the glowing sun
We watched it setting together
I knew that a kind of mutual friendship had begun
Over days, weeks, months and years
You’ve sat on your tree
I’ve stood over here
You brought your offspring to show me
You’ll always be my friend, my wonder, my connection with nature’s beauty - you’ll always be my peregrine and live forever in my memory.
