A Friend Tonight

A Friend Tonight

It's not what I meant to do it wasn't my intention.
To see the pain inside of you and know things you didn't mention.

But I have seen that look before, to me it's no surprise.
The smile you wear just cannot hide the hurt behind your eyes.

I smile as I shake your hand I hope that soon you'll see.
You have met a friend tonight your secret's safe with me.

Of all the times when you're alone and you lose all control.
The nights that you spend crying. I won't tell a soul.

Miles away I hear the cries on nights when you can't sleep.
While stuck here in this prison of promises I keep.

Because you see we're not alone there's more like you and I.
Searching through the shadows for someplace safe to cry.

Not wanting to hurt someone else we head out on our own.
Needing every now and then just to be alone.

I smile as I shake your hand I hope that soon you'll see.
You have met a friend tonight your secret's safe with me.
