A Friend Indeed

The day you came to live with me
We both wanted a friend
To love, to care, to spend some time
No other could there have been

For you approached me smiling
A twinkle in your eye
Tail wagging with such joy
We both were hooked for life

Never a bond so tender
Never a bond so true
You snuggle up to me each day
No closer than us two
