A Friend

The clock struck 1020 AM on a Tuesday morning
in mid-May of 2024. I thought for a moment about
the trials and struggles of my life. As I began
what could have been a long muse down a memory lane
of adversities, I was struck by one recurring fact.
In every situation, there was God.
In every valley, there was family.
In every pit, there was a Church.
In every desert, there were friends.

On this gentle May morning, an old friend named
Todd, whom I have not seen in 30-plus years,
flashed across the pages of my mind. Todd was
a mechanic by trade, and he rescued my car and
my family on more than one occasion.

Each 'breakdown' left me feeling hopeless and alone.
That is until Todd came along and rescued me. I'm
thinking of Todd just now whom I met in the summer
of 1986. I shall never forget the gracious spirit of
Todd and his family.

Hello Curtis, what a heartfelt tribute to the power of friendship and the blessings of divine intervention. The way you mix personal anecdotes with reflections on faith and gratitude is deeply moving. Todd's selflessness and kindness shine through your words, showing us all of the importance of being there for one another. A very touching piece. - Blessings, Daniel
