A Day's Outing
Soft whimsical wind rustles the tall trees
geese on the wing fly by in formation
honking and hooting, what a wretched din
glad as the noise fades and peace is returned
My journey today to reach the summit
a long harduous yet an enchanting climb
butterflies so pretty flutter around
clumps of flowers sprinkled along the path
The air so very sharp and crystal clear
to breathe it in gives me much pleasure
Fascinated I watch two young stags spar
each one is vying for supremacy
Cheerful rivulets and brooks babbling
cooling the sultry air, birds taking dips
nearly there now I have enjoyed the climb
at the top a most splendidious view
Stretched out in front of me tiny fields
forming patchwork quilt of varying hues
Little houses and farms nestling between
Lush emerald valleys with golden corn
I have enjoyed my outing in this place
of beauty and such peaceful solitude
a moment taken out of daily strife
the chance of a return to simple life
