A Day of Prayer

A DAY OF PRAYER America was founded with blood and sweat and tears Of men who wanted freedom from tyranny and fears. They came to this great country in ships both large and small To build a hope and future with liberty for all. When they saw the horizon of this land’s peaceful shore, They looked above to heaven to give thanks to the Lord. With their feet firmly planted upon this brand new land, They wrote up an agreement for woman and for man. It started with assurance that God had led them there And stated with specifics their heartfelt thankful prayers. Yes, prayer has made this country what it is still today, Its freedoms all so precious some try to take away. Now once a year we gather on the National Day of Prayer To ask God for these favors and lift our voices there. “Oh God, please keep our country what men so long ago Envisioned for its future with truths that they did know: That God Almighty made us; to Him we owe our days, And only through His power can we in freedom stay. This day we humbly beg You to hear our earnest prayer. To lead, guide, and protect us in this land bright and fair. And may You give us leaders who humbly seek Your face So this great, mighty nation can stay within Your grace. Give us the wisdom, Father, a citizen to be, And a child here in Your service to keep this country free. And then we humbly seek You to show us where we fail And help us be repentant so forgiveness can prevail. We thank You for this country, for all its Godly men, Help us be more like them, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
