A Cold Reminder
A Cold Reminder
The day you took your last breath
and left us all behind,
you stole a piece of us
we will never get back.
When we heard the news,
we stared in silent disbelief.
As the news sank in,
your family searched
for someone else to blame.
Whispering words like,
“If you had only listened,”
or,
“If you had loved them more,
they would still be with us.”
Now you lay alone
with a stone that bears your name.
A place that we can visit,
but it will never be the same.
We cannot hear your laughter
or hear your voice again.
The slab, a cold reminder
that you could not beat the pain.
