a clean break from the past perhaps too much to ask delicately loosen, never yank rips and tears leave memoirs blank

So true, Gershon. It is really difficult to "delicately loosen" the scabs from our past. Doing so sometimes causes the bleeding to start all over again. I always wondered why my mom said, "Do not pick at those scabs!"
