A Christmas Surprise

A CHRISTMAS SURPRISE SANTA AND RUDOLPH WERE ON THE SAME PAGE, WERE BOTH GETTING OLDER, AND RESPECTED EACH OTHER’S AGE, THEY HAD BEEN TOGETHER FOR EVER AND EVER, AS FAR BACK AS THEY COULD REMEMBER! THEY’D GONE THROUGH RECESSIONS REAL BAD, THRIVING ECONOMIES WHEN PARENTS SPENT LIKE MAD, THEY TOURED THE WORLD ONCE A YEAR, SANTA HOWEVER HAD A SECRET FEAR, THAT HE AND RUDOLPH WOULD SOON BE REPLACED, THEY WERE BOTH PREPARED AND BRACED! THE AUTHORITIES SOON CAME KNOCKING ON THE DOOR, YOUNG RUDOLPH, WAS TO TAKE DAD’S PLACE, AND MRS. SANTA, SANTA’S PLACE! YOU COULD HAVE KNOCKED SANTA OVER WITH A FEATHER! BEING SANTA’S WIFE, MRS. SANTA WAS USED TO THE NORTH POLE AND ALL KINDS OF WEATHER, AND SHE HAD OFTEN SNUCK INTO SANTA’S SLEIGH, AND CERTAINLY KNEW HER WAY, AROUND THE WORLD AS SHE ABOUT WHIRLED, OVER EVERY CONTINENT, EVERY COUNTRY, AND ENJOYED PACKING PRESENTS WITH HER HUSBAND, WRAPPED AND READY FOR CHRISTMAS DAY! WOMAN ARE TAKING OVER THE WORLD EXCLAIMED SANTA, TO HIS PIXIES, ELVES AND 8 REINDEER, BUT HE SAID IT WITH A HUGE BEAM ON HIS FACE, FOR BOTH HE AND SHE LOVED THE WHOLE HUMAN RACE. HE WAS SO PROUD OF HIS WIFE WHO WAS A CENTURY YOUNGER, SHE WOULD DO HIM PROUD, SANTA SHOUTED OUT LOUD, AFTER ALL, SHE CAME FROM THE SAME PEDIGREE! AS FOR RUDOLPH HIS SON IS GOING TO FLY THIS CHRISTMAS EVE, LOOK OUT FOR HIM AND MRS SANTA TOO AND DON’T FORGET THE HOT COCOA AND A BISCUIT OR TWO!

Hi Arturo, I'm not an absolute feminist but I do believe duties should be shared - that's what happy couples do. Let Mrs. Santa Claus do her thing whilst hubby supports her for a while! Your comment is meaningful and thoughtful! Best wishes, Jennifer

Fun. It had a preconceived sense to it that just seemed to write itself. Makes one wonder how long someone sits and thinks of such things. :) So enjoyed.

Hi Robert, Thank-you for your comment. Actually I was listening to Christmas Carols and my thoughts went to Santa when i was young and I imagined how busy and tired he has got over many Centuries so his wife who is a century younger would be the ideal person to give him a short (or permanent ) break. The thought came instantly and then my pen just flowed. After all, she knows all the ropes! Thanks for your comment Robert and happy you enjoyed reading it. Best wishes, Jennifer.

Kudos for your imagination Jennifer. May be this will start a new tradition of Santa stories. I read your poem with great curiosity and you came through with your own originality on this lovely theme.

Hi Vijay, Lovely to meet you. Perhaps it will, woman seem to be increasingly seen in positions before preconceived by man, that only men can do. It has been proved wrong daily. We might see Mrs. santa around for quite a while still. Humbled by your kind comment and hope to be communicating for a long time to come. Best wishes, Jennifer.

Hi Andrea, Having a lazy morning and catching up with my poetry soup correspondence. Just thought I would stretch my imagination a little further because I am fascinated by Father Christmas! Glad you enjoyed it. Santa is a couple of hundred years old so perhaps a hundred years between them doesn't amount to much in essence. Blessings Andrea and hugs, Jennifer.

Hi Kim, thank you for your comment. Yes women are no longer taking a back seat, even Mrs. Santa is part of the 21st century Feminist Movement! About 100 years after Emily Pankhurst and the suffragettes , we have a determined party coming in to play, winning the vote was certainly not enough! Hugs, Jenny.

Ho, Ho Winged Warrior, what can I get you from Christmas, asks Mrs. Santa?! Glad to see she has your support - however, a real turn around for others! Best wishes, Jennifer.

Lovely Christmas verse Jennifer, and while Mrs Claus has a well earned nap, Santa can cook the dinner. So this year I won't leave a glass of whiskey but a glass of champagne. Tom

Thanks Tom, Maybe we should leave Mrs. Santa a Jamie Oliver recipe book that she can take it back to Santa, LOL. and she will surely appreciate the champagne. Best wishes, Jennifer.
