A Child Meets a Ghost

It is the middle of the night
My eyes open slowly
Fear strikes me in the moonlight
As I look at something unholy

It stands there staring at me
As I shake with anxiety and dread
For this ghost that I see
Must be from the house of the dead

This creature is horribly ugly
With razor like claws
It’s teeth are sharp and hungry
With large wide jaws

The outside night light
Shimmers off it’s skin
This is truly a fright
As it shows a hideous grin

It gets close to me and then vanishes away
As I hear my mother’s footsteps in the hallway
