A Child Is Free

A child is free to play and just be, In the bounds of family safety. Imagination, a mind open wide, A sponge to soak up with nothing to hide. Fascination, on the edge of a seat, Trusting and loving not missing a beat. Skipping and running with no where to go, Pretending so fierce, putting on a show. Not stopping to rest till dropping to sleep. So quiet and special don’t make a peep. When did you last look up at the stars, Smile and wave at the passing cars? Stomped in a puddle ‘till you were wet, Caught a bee in a jar on a bet, Danced in the street to the latest tune, Or stood in your yard and howled at the moon? When did you last run through the rain, Just to have fun and forget life’s pain? Or chase the ice cream truck down through the street, Screaming and waving while kicking your feet? Yes, a child is free, free to just be, To have fun and to love and be loved… Children learn from their peers, from us. Let us not let them down…
