A Child

I didn't ask for a pedestal
that's too far for me to fall
I didn't ask you to move mountains
or for anything at all
from the day that you were born
right up to this very hour
I've always done my best
to make sure you know you're loved

I know I'm not perfect
though you wanted me to be
I know I've made mistakes
right now that's all you see
what a parent does for a child
those things I did for you
if you look deep in your heart
you know that this is true

I know I didn't deserve
all the hurtful things you said
maybe you should look inside
at all the good things there instead 
the bond we'll always have
the umbilical never cut
it will never wear out
or could ever be all used up

I hope that this child has read this....and one day can find forgiveness in their heart. My dad has carried guilt with him for years for mistakes he made. The day we talked about our past was the start of a new relationship. I learned the truth about a lot of things. Hope you are given this chance. Best of luck!
