A Chance To Read

I never let a day pass by Without a chance to read, For words provide the nourishment On which my mind does feed. To fiction I’m addicted; Every chapter is a fix, The Times and The New Yorker Adding interest to the mix. My grandson’s sitting next to me, A chapter book in hand, The joy of reading something That we each can understand. How wonderful to share with those We love the pure delight Of reading stories that Another reader chose to write.

I love the days of reading a book next to someone else reading a book. This is fabulous!

Reading certainly does help us non-global explorers expand our horizons... even 'chapter books.' (Never really understood that term. Isn't every book actually a 'chapter book?'... Oh, well...). Happiness and Joy, Gershon

Great piece Ilene, such wise words indeed which we should all heed, although I'm an avid reader I need to discipline myself to read more and better.Have a great weekend, Gordon

Beautifully written. I applaud anyone who gets both rhyme and meter right. So few do. And the subject matter is also close to my heart. Reading is so important at all ages.

Lovely, Ilene. Yes, it is so wonderful...and you are setting such a good example for your grandson. Hopefully, he will enjoy writing, too.

I love to read, too, especially fiction. I guess it's my way of escaping reality. My husband thinks I read too much. I just think he's jealous. Enjoyed your poem, Ilene! Blessings, Kim M

Could not help but laugh at comparing the Times and New Yorker to fiction, after a report that the USA ranks #49 of #49 nations where people trust the media to report the truth! Reading to your grandson will help him learn to distinguish fact from fiction! Well done! Aloha! Rico
