A Bowl

Have you ever held a begging bowl
The weight of it is as much as your soul
When held out to you truth be told
An exchange happens both sides unfold

An empty stomach his only bowl
Little coins in hands as cold
Are we the fortunate ones bestowed
All doors to him are closed

What if this story were retold
How much given how much owed
Both hearts dead so long they’ve decomposed
He’s watching you your eyes now closed.
