A Book By Its Cover
I watched diligently as the old man finished his work,
Although it may have taken just a bit longer, you knew this was an added perk.
Quality is something that has become so very hard to find,
It’s like everything that used to have value has been left behind.
And the really sad part to me was he was so appreciative to get the bid,
He said most folks don’t think I can do the work, but believe me he did.
With a few added touches he threw in for free,
He said I take pride in what I do and I just want people to see.
But his work was truly magnificent the best I’ve ever seen,
The old guy was in his seventies but his stature was straight and lean.
Everything was done with hand tools, not one power tool did he have on the site,
And just getting to know him, to me was such a delight.
I’ve always championed the underdog and I really don’t know why,
And I can usually tell some ones character, by their stature, but mostly the look that is
in their eye.
Not only did I find a good carpenter, but I also made a friend,
Some one whom I’ll always remember to the very end.
