A Bit of Wilderness

I have a strange obsession
or, if you will, a “quirk”
an intrinsic need for wilderness
in which to hide and lurk

It hits me at odd moments
this need to get away
and I must find seclusion
nearby- without delay

For people 'round me all day long
tend to exhaust me so
when worrying, hurrying, massive throngs
crush in- then I must go

I tiptoe through the kitchen
slide out through a side door
holding breath 'til past the gate
and safe and sound outdoors

For here they cannot reach me
I'm in my lair at last
and nothing matters but the 'now'
neither future nor the past

I revel in the textures
of verdant carpets of moss
of rugged rocks and gnarly trees
of delicate crystal frost

A place where nature's wonders
fall out unfettered and free
spilling about, over, and under
completely surrounding me

A place where lavish loveliness lives
where I can sit and dream
where sunshine steadily showers down
in glorious glittering streams

I stretch out in the clover
away from loathsome crowds
and hibernate, or lie awake
and make out shapes in clouds

And as the sky turns darker
the dazzling show's begun
spectacular sparkles of early stars
that will not be outdone

It may be cold and frigid here
as evening hits the air
but I would rather stay right here
than be most anywhere

I love your writing style. You reveal the beauty word by word, I have a great admiration for a poet that can do that. Have a wonderful day dear Rhona.
