A Best Man

Oh, what a gloomy Sunday! What they call
a resurrection* is more like a doom
of my eternal soul. That may befall
if you drank whiskey and Tequila Boom
on wedding with the cousin of the groom.

Her name was Jane. I was a little vexed
she didn’t want to dance. I hoped that Jane
and I… I don’t recall what happened next.
Oh, hell, if you are going to obtain
my soul, please, go get me a cold champagne.

* In Russian Sunday is voskresen’e (literally, resurrection).
