911 Tribute

The World Trade Center buildings once stood so tall
No one could have ever thought that they would ever fall
They were a symbol of our country and glittered in the sun
But they were obliterated forever on the date of 911
We all cried and asked God the question of how and why
As the souls of the departed made they’re way towards the sky
Brave men and women searched for survivors through the cluttered mess
What was the reason for the attack was just anyone’s pondering guess
Our minds were permanently wounded and our hearts were destroyed
Many family and friends were left with a life long void
Candles were lit and mourners’ hands were peacefully together held
A nation came together and we were all completely compelled
A sense of pride came over us like we never felt before
Because of the death of our fellow Americans from an unprovoked war
Will we ever fully recover from the pain and suffering that others have begot
So we will build memorials, raise flags, bow our heads in prayer to the saluting gunshot
To be strong and to heal is a goal we all have had to set
To honor those who died for freedom and to never ever forget
Maybe we will learn to live life again like we did before that fateful day
And always remember our loved ones and look at our flag in a different way
Lets go on with our hopes dreams and fulfill every waking endeavor
Immortalize their loss sacrifice and eternal memory now and forever and ever

Gives me shivers to read this poignant poem Kevin. You capture the senseless horror that gripped those of us all over the world who watched transfixed at what happened. You tell the story with a gripping sense of that time.
