31 Years of Motherhood

31 YEARS OF BEING THE HAPPIEST MOTHER
IN ALL THE WORLD
IS TRULY SOMETHING TO CELEBRATE
BECAUSE MAKEBA IS MY LITTLE GIRL

I TAUGHT HER TO GRAB LIFE BY THE TAIL
AND NEVER LET IT GO
KEEP SMILIN-THAT’S MY LEGACY
THE BRIGHT SIDE WILL ALWAYS SHOW

SOMETIMES WHEN THE WATER SEEMS TOO ROUGH
I TRY TO STOP HER FROM JUMPING IN
BUT I RAISED A STRONG BLACK WOMAN
HER MISSION IS TO WIN

I’M PROUD OF HER-SHE’S BEAUTIFUL
I’M THE LUCKIEST MOTHER IN THE WORLD
SHE’S 31 NOW AND MY BEST FRIEND
BUT SHE’S STILL MY LITTLE GIRL

Black or white, we need to teach our daughters (and sons) to be strong and wise. I too am a proud mom. I am glad we share the same feelings.
