10,000 Vacant Dwellings

10,000 vacant dwellings
In Manhattan are for rent
Which even a vaccine would prove
Too late to quite prevent.

For people left in droves, their reasons
Obvious and sad –
No jobs or money to sustain
The lifestyle that they had.

The city, minus all the buzz,
Is lacking in appeal
So all those bare apartments
Don’t seem like the greatest deal.

If even I, a city gal,
With New York blood and mind,
Is questioning the urban life,
Will any lease be signed?

Sad days for the Big Apple. NYC has rebounded from many tragedies, I'd like to believe it will again... one of the greatest cities in the world.

That first stanza is a real zinger, Ilene. Our cities ARE in trouble, for sure... And what's going to happen to commercial real estate? Hi-tech companies are not going to want to spend zillions on showy offices if everyone's working from home... And so it goes.... Take good care, Gershon

Sad Ilene hope it isn't a sign of a great depression, this virus is bringing the world to its knees. Tom

Sad, Ilene, but from what I gather from the news, the NYC mayor and his policies, taxes, etc, has a lot to do with the exit as well as the scourge of the virus. Stay safe - Bob

Yet landlords are busy evicting despite a lack of those who can actually make a security deposit? Trump's Judiciary will certainly be busy processing bankruptcies other than his own! Aloha! Rico

Wow! Crazy vacancy rates, unprecedented. Makesme think a societal reordering is underway. I'm in a little city I love very much, but I think I would be happy as a pig in poo in the country ;), xomo
