What Passes For Talk
Hello. (I no longer know what this word means, But I take it that this will do: You exist, And I spoke because of this, Because I know That without you then "Hello." shall come to an end, As if you were a book, As if "Hello." were only the title, And I came here reading out of curiosity, And you were there to be read, Which is why I spoke the word, Which is why you heard, And you too knew my existence And yours have coincided Somehow, in this entropy of four dimensions, But how we were but points in space, And in our smallness could we ever grasp the word Fate, But if it was Fate as it is, then who could have said it? If it was God, then how could we understand That the word was really Fate And not the word we heard, "Hello." As if human logic understands God's intuition, How all I know is the Word, that it came, "Hello," before me is you, And now you wonder why I said so, Why the word was uttered, Why did I read in to you in the first place, Why are we both here, now Furthermore, why is the world so big, That this meet could count as miraculous; Why was the Word uttered? Why did you turn when I said 'Hello,' As if you didn't know you existed? As if you needed me to exist, but you don't.) Goodbye. (Maybe the answer is it doesn't matter, Or maybe it's because you and I walk on similar thread, Or maybe it's simply because endings need to have beginnings, ...)
