We had been taking turns with the telescope when she spotted it Right outside the spaceship, only 10,000 kilometers from us. It was as gorgeous as any jewelry. A teardrop of glowing turquoise in the center, Subtly surrounded by an oval of the prettiest pink. It seemed to be surrounded by smoke rings in glowing oranges. I knew it was mainly hydrogen and dust, possibly a bit of plasma. But to me it was the world. It validated all I had come to do. Being an explorer in the year 2067 is not easy but when you come across Something this beautiful, it makes the days and nights of sacrifice worth it. I felt we might be at the edge of the galaxy, Marveling at the orange rings that perhaps signal the next one? It was the highlight of my life at this point.
