Getting Older
Accidents many years ago it seems, Now cause pain, spoiling my dreams. A whip lash crash, a slip or fall, Long forgotten, no, not at all. Why does my shoulder ache so much? Why are there days when I need a crutch? What is this pain, never banged my knee? How come my wrist is paining me My back is sometimes giving me gyp, I don't recall hurting my hip. Must remember, don't look to the right, Or the pain in my neck will keep me up all night. Holding my Kindle makes my fingers tingle, Then after a moment they tend to lock, When it first happened it was such a shock. How this list has grown over the years, Makes me sound like a total wreck. But I'm not, I am pleased to say, Just niggling pains that do go away. They seem to take turns coming back each day, What's going to visit today I hear myself say, A twinge in my foot, or an ache in my back I'm at the age when I'm under attack. So what do I do when it comes you may ask. A drink and my kindle, in the sun I will bask. The warmth it gives is a treat to my bones. After not many minutes it dispels my moans. I'm just getting older, This I cannot alter, My steps are slower, they now and then falter. But my heart still beats and is full of love. For my family & friends & God above. No matter what aches and pains may come my way. I can still sit out in the sun and enjoy the day. © Dave Timperley 09/06/2018
