Drawing a blank

Posted by Michelle Waters on 7/19/2025 12:01:07 PM

Hello! I'd like to know what you all do when you are stuck for ideas. I don't have  a lot of life experiences, such as travelling, careers, social outlets, etc. to draw from. I am pretty much a homebody, living in a very small southern Missouri town. My family is scattered for the most part  I'm concerned that the topics I would write about would be boring to readers. How do you come up with ideas that would interest readers?

Thank you all for your ideas. I certainly will incorporate them into my journaling.

I love nature because it is inspiring, and I find taking a stroll outside or even looking out a window lifts my mood and sparks my creativity.

Make a note Michelle when any idea pops into your head(day or night) make a note..then later write a verse thereon..long or short

Just saying if it was me...I would use the behaviors of animals and television also any work I may do. I would also use human relationships

Even at home, you can get inspiration too. Observe the mundane, monotonous, and usual things. Draw emotions from these, and know you can create something great.

Read the news on as many platforms as possible. Read lost of poem, not to copy them but to get inspired.

Observe things you would normally pass by and focus on those things. I'm sure in your small town, new things can be found.
