Today I Learned
Today I learned that someday I will be an adult. Crazy right? You think I would have realized that sooner but I guess I like to live in the moment. But when I do think of the future, I dream big. Maybe someday when I'm an adult I will live in a fabulous city. In that fabulous city I’ll eat at cute hole-in-the-wall restaurants, meet interesting people, and rent a charming apartment overlooking a park. I’ll shop at overpriced designer stores and wear big extravagant jackets. I’ll go to farmers markets and purchase big bouquets of tulips and arrange them in big beautiful vases. I’ll dress in chic sweaters, colorful scarves, and knee-high boots. Every Sunday I will call my parents, while I sit in a well-lit café with green awnings, sipping coffee because hopefully then I will be able to handle the bitter taste. I’ll listen to their stories of simple passings with their neighbors and what trouble the dogs have gotten into recently. We will say our goodbye’s and I love you’s and I’ll be on my way. Maybe I’ll sing with a professional opera company and sing in hard-to-pronounce languages. Or maybe I’ll be a strict lawyer who wins cases nobody else can. I do have many, many dreams as you can tell. But it usually comes back to one. I lay awake sometimes at night thinking of my dream and how I yearn to reach it. Every night like a hand out stretched to grab and take hold of it. Never to release it. As I get older I realize the intensity of my dream. And each day I get closer to the possibility of living it. I’m not sure of how it will go or how it will happen. But that’s how it is supposed to be right?
