The Words at the Cross

The day they crucified Jesus he said some pretty wonderful things while he was hanging on the cross. I would like to talk about some of them.

First he endured a whole morning of torture. He was whipped, hit, slapped, spit upon and a crown of thorns was forced on so hard it made deep cuts in his head. Then he was forced to carry a heavy wooden cross up a steep road to Skull Mountain. Part way up his strength gave out and the soldiers were forced to get someone from the crowd to carry the cross the rest of the way.
When they got to the top Jesus was nailed to the cross and he was stood up between to murderers. The people around him started yelling “If you are the son of God get down off that cross and we will follow you.” Then one of the murderers said “Get down off the cross and take us with you.” The other murderer said “Shut up we belong here this man does not.” Then he turned to Jesus and said “Jesus when you get to your kingdom save a place for me.” Jesus said “WHEN I GET TO MY KINGDOM YOU WILL BE RIGHT BESIDE ME.” Then Jesus said something unbelievable, it is the reason I follow him. Anyone who could feel this way I have to follow. Jesus said “FATHER PLEASE FORGIVE THEM FOR THEY DON'T HAVE ANY IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING.” After all Jesus went through he can hang on the cross and forgive those who put him there, this really amazes me.
A little while later Jesus said “I AM THIRSTY”. One of the soldiers dipped a sponge in vinegar and held it up to Jesus. At least that was what we were taught when we were kids in the 50s and 60s. I never could understand that. Have you ever tasted vinegar? It taste awful. I thought maybe this was more torture for Jesus. I recently did some research and found out that the vinegar referred to was a mixer of pain killers the Romans made up to help the dying when the pain was too much. So when the soldier held the sponge up to Jesus he was really trying to be nice but Jesus refused the pain killers.
Then Jesus saw Mary, his mother, standing next to John the Apostle and he said to them “JOHN TAKE CARE OF MARY AS IF SHE WAS YOUR OWN MOTHER.” Then he turned to Mary and said “MARY GO WITH JOHN HE WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU LIKE HE WAS YOUR SON.”
A little while later Jesus looked up and said “IT IS FINISHED”. The he shouted “MY GOD MY GOD WHY HAVE YOU LEFT ME?”
Then Jesus died . The skies grew dark for 3 hours and the curtain in the temple was ripped from top to bottom.
I believe he said this because for the first and only time in his life Jesus was alone. He had to go into Hell alone and take our sins with him. He had to leave them at Satin's feet. So that we could live in Heaven with him forever. Then Jesus rose from the dead and opened up Heaven so that we could live with him there when we leave here.
