THE WEIRD KID

New script and format by Rachen Tolmacs (My Literary name)

Drafted from the Original story 'Halloween and the Weird Kid'(2007), by Greg Mayo

Introduction

In 2007, Greg Mayo decided to write a story titled "Halloween and the Weird Kid." It was based on a friend we met in 2007, who still has some weird qualities. None of the actions in the story occurred as written. In fact, we are all still acquaintances today. If you saw the weird kid, then you would understand why Mayo wrote a fictional story about him. So do not take this story as the truth, as it was written for a literary magazine that never saw the article, for obvious reasons presented in the original draft.

(Outside of a small southwestern high school)

Narrator: (Walking onto a dark stage holding a lantern and wearing a dark robe. While putting the lantern on a bar stool, the man begins to speak. Good evening, everyone. Tonight's story is about the meeting of two friends with a person considered to have mental disturbances. At least socially defined disturbances, as neither Viper nor Greg was a psychiatrist. A day of the fall with a breeze, a murky look is upon the sight of everyone, and upon the sight of the student body. Girls were seen wearing thong sandals, and some were flashing their thongs to show their desire for a relationship with the opposite sex. Please realize that two types of thongs are shown in this visual. If you are not familiar with both types, refer to a dictionary. It felt like snow would be on the ground early this year. Everyone was hoping that it would not be so. It was October 29th, two days before the day of 'All Hallows Eve.' Two teens named Aaron and Greg had been friends since their freshman year, when they met in ROTC. This year would be very different for them, as it would introduce them to a weird kid who had a psychotic look on the world and the physical appearance of a panhandler. We begin our scene outside the high school, near the horseshoe sculpture. Greg is wearing blue jeans, a brown shirt, and a denim jacket with a faux lining. Viper is wearing black jeans, a leather jacket, and a button-down shirt. Now our scene begins.

Viper: (singing and jogging from the street) C-130 rolling down the strip. (Comes upon Greg) What's up?

Greg: Viper, it is almost Halloween. What are you going to be doing?

Viper: I am going to hang out with my girlfriend and watch some horror shows. We plan on taking her sister out trick-or-treating before we hang out and watch her count her candy. What about you?

Greg: I am going up to the mountain to do some camping. It has been a while since I did some camping. I think the last time was in July.

Viper: That sounds cool. I would join you, except that my girl prefers to watch horror and romantic films. She is kind of lovable, with an innocent heart.

Greg: My girlfriend prefers to stay and chill and not go on adventures.

Viper: Sometimes I wonder how these girls come to us like flies to the flame and end up in a constant whirlwind around and about us.

(Foyer)

Greg: It looks like they are going to have the game tonight.

Viper: Yes, I am going to be at it with the band.

Greg: Hey, do you see that weird kid outside there, just sitting on the bench? He looks mental just sitting there staring at those girls.

Viper: (Looking towards the girls) Yes, he's new to the area and doesn't seem to respond to anyone. I have never heard him say a word and have only seen him eating ramen noodles. Yeah, I wonder why he is staring at those girls. It looks like he is eyeing them like a lion about to pounce on a gazelle.

Greg: (alarmed) Don't look now, but he is looking at us, and it seems weird.

Narrator(voice off stage): The weird kid was staring right at Viper and Greg, in a manner of a person who was struck in the groin by a person’s foot. In other words, it was like he was kicked in the balls. Viper and Greg have both started out their day on a note of concern and being freaked out. When it comes to stepping out of the norm and into the realm of the impossible, people will see the abnormal as the normal and not question it. The weird kid is looking at them and is not breaking his gaze. Immediately, he got up and started to walk towards them. Both Viper and Greg are alarmed by the gaze and move towards the hallway past the commons area. They both hurried to that area. Fortunately, they avoided the weird kid.

(Hallway Commons)

Greg: I'm glad we got rid of that weird kid. What the hell was his problem anyway? He just kept staring at us. It's wise, like that weird guy in those Halloween movies, except its stare was moving at us even when he didn't walk.

Viper: Ah, bloody shit…do not look now, but he is by the ticket office. He's carrying a guitar, a case, and LOOKS like the Hitman in 'Blood Money.' That guitar case is the clue to what he does and probably what he is into.

Greg: All he needs is a bald head (grin). You know, now that I recall, I have seen him in the guitar class when I went to ask Mr. Cuthrell about piano learning.

Viper: So now we know that he is in guitar class

Greg: Or that he likes to carry his ganga in it (laughing).

Aaron: ONLY wishing, let's get out of here and head to Mr. Cuthrell's.

Greg: Yeah, the weird kid does not have it until hour 3. Oh, shit, I am in that class.

Aaron: (rib punch), good luck, he might catch your bald head syndrome

Greg: At least he'll catch my good luck charm.

Aaron: Bullshit! He'll probably catch a case of social isolation, unless he drinks from a hip flask. Do you still have liquid in there?

Greg: Yeah, you want some?

Aaron: If I drink anything now, I’ll probably be on the victim list.

(Band Room)

Greg: Well, time to sit my butt on the piano and not miss a note.

Viper: That is like having me not go a Major 3rd (2 whole steps) or an octave (an octave above) the note.

Cuthrell: I am trying to see things more positively, since you might not have known that I usually say what's on my mind.

Jazz III class: No, Mr. Cuthrell, we did not notice (grinning and laughing)

Cuthrell: Every time there is a mess up, I am going to say "thanks for trying)

(Rehearsal begins - song - )

Narrator: One of the trumpets plays the wrong notes.

Cuthrell: (while stopping the band, he looks around) Thanks for trying. (Restarts the band)

Narrator: A sax player plays the wrong note and says a curse word

Cuthrell: (stops the band and has a grin) Thanks for trying!

Viper: That was a weird session.

Greg: Yes, I have never seen Mr. C start and end a lesson without a comical negative comment.

Viper: Yeah, he had twenty. "Thanks for trying," comments.

Narrator: When the class left the room, they did not see the weird kid left in the band room. Mr. Cuthrell was in his office and was unaware that the weird kid had a guitar string in his hands. To this day, we can only speculate what happened. Mr. Cuthrell refuses to speak about the incident and claims he has no knowledge of it. SO, we now return to the scene of a mid-day break.

(Lunchroom)

Viper: Hey that weird kid is sitting in the corner there with ramen and a grin on his face. It looks like he is eating brain matter with intestines.

Greg: Yes it would seem that he accomplished something and sitting there with a false satisfaction.

Viper: Is it odd that Mr. C had the door closed after 5th hour?

Greg: Yes it is odd since he told no one that he was going to be leaving early.

Viper: Well, should we go and check and see if the door is closed?

Greg: It is.

Viper: Well, all we can do now is enjoy the holiday!

Narrator: Later that night Mr. Cuthrell woke up at his desk. He had a massive headache and felt drowsy. He picked up a mirror and saw that on his face was written

"Thanks for trying." To himself he muttered...

Cuthrell: Thanks for trying. Tomorrow I'm going back to be normal. You see what happens to me when I change my routine. I wake up in a daze and have my face written.

"Thanks for trying."

Narrator: When we last left we saw Mr. Cuthrell waking up and laughing to himself with the words of “Thanks for trying,” coming from his lips. He had a line across his neck as if someone had tried to strangle him. We can only speculate on what had happened when the Jazz Class had left the room. The weird kid was still in the room when Mr. Cuthrell went into his office. Of course, the words of blame never came from Mr. Cuthrell; however, you may be asking if there was a tape. There was a tape, and it has been uncovered of what happened during that day. Welcome to the conclusion of the Weird Kid.
