The shortest story

As i shoulder charged the hollow door
the first thing i noticed was the distain in the air
Blood and shit in a sickly perfume
i stretched my top over my mouth
heaving with impunity
light trickled from the barely shut drapes
Catching a shadow
as it spent into the blue
that James had become.
The overflowing ashtray
sprinkling his gummy bears
two half dinks of Coke
his precious remote
one of his kids toys
twisted in a funny pose
but the pages
held against his chest.
i couldn't draw my eyes.
The pierce of a nightingale fall
came from Susan behind me.
I barked at some of the shadows
to take her outside.
Her scream battering along the passage
as friends comforted in vulture swoop.
It's weird seeing someone you knew
not being there
I mean his body is there
but behind his milking eyes, just gone
I pulled a rug
Laying it over
his froze torso.
i kinda smirked thinking of times
sat around his kitchen
half burnt sauces linger in the air
ever clink followed by a chuckle
Occasionally he would scribble
on that pad he insistently carried
That line wow i still remember
Falling
because there is nothing there
to stop me
jotted beside a drawing of
might have been a duck
not sure he wasn't much of an artist.
Always good with words
I was there
the night he turned to a passing
figure
If there was anyone more beautiful
on the planet i have never seen them
Her harpy of friends
dragging her away
He never turned his eyes
until she met them.
