The Pick-up Chapter Ten: A New Reality

After emerging from the circle of stones, Talon hopped around, head swiveling as if to take in the scene. Then she fluttered up to gain a higher vantage point.

She appeared rather regal, perched above the Iron Cross welded into Knuckle's backrest frame; a queen claiming her throne.

As I looked around, I discovered that our Joker brothers had vanished, been swallowed by the road. Our advanced guard was gone.

Later on, when they discussed with us the goings-on of that occasion, all they reported was a lot of acid-fueled, stoner talk, with weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth, as foretold.

They never saw nor were aware of the presence of the ally. And so it was, they split for the Golden Gate.

In the very center of the circle the ally had just abandoned, were three, pristine tailfeathers, much smaller and shinier then those dropped by the ally. Perfect medicine tokens.

Our guide reached into the bag that had contained the magic buttons and brought forth three beautiful, hand-stitched, beaded, doe-skin pouches, each with a different design. She placed them within the circle of stones.

She then spoke softly, in reverent tones, her voice meant to carry but not disturb.

"Each of you will choose the pouch that calls to you. Then, in the same manner, you must select a stone, then a feather for your sacred, medicine pouch.

"Raven will choose first." And she did.

Later that morning, we smoked a bit of the purple gift and let it take us higher. Then we gathered in our intuitions and began a search for other 'magical' items for our pouches.

Each of us found a thing or two. Then we sealed up the items in our bags, as our powerful shaman priestess performed the rites of bonding and closure. It was done. We had strong medicine indeed.

NOTES:

It is now time to continue north to San Francisco Bay area where new (mis)adventures await.

As we prepared for our run north, I started constructing a wire enclosure with which to transport Talon, who watched from her throne as it started to take shape. Then she hopped up and down a few times, turned her head to look straight into my eye and said, quite distinctly "Talon spirit-guide. No cage."

I did a double take. "What?" I squawked. "No cage for spirit-guide" she replied and fluttered over to land in the backseat of the Fury. Raven and I gaped at each other. Saniyah merely smiled a little wider and nodded her head. Soon we were ready to head out.
