The Middletown Murder

The Middletown Murderer

I live in a small town up north that has been on the news a lot lately. We have been on the news about murders... not just one or two, but 13 murders. I am just a 16-year-old boy, but I think I could stop the murderer. I have been studying him for three months so far, but these murders—they are not normal murders, there is something different about them. They are all quite different styles from one another. One of the murders was a ten-year-old kid that was held under a flowing river until he drowned, but another one of the murders was a mid-age man who got stabbed 17 times in the chest, it’s crazy right? The most recent murder was of a 16-year-old kid who was walking down an alley. The last thing I found was a smiley face painted with his blood all over a brick wall. When I first saw it, I got chills in my soul, like I was being watched. After I was done there, and I got home that is when I knew-- I knew I was going to be next. I saw the window that leads to my room had been painted black... black on both sides, outside; and in. I searched the premises and found no signs of how he got in. I never have my windows unlocked; I am too paranoid for that. That means the only way in was with a spare key, but how- how did he get a spare key? That is when I realized my key was missing, he must have taken my key. I decided it was best that I get to sleep, but first I had to get food. I went to the kitchen, opened the fridge and there lay a human heart, and a note. On that note it said “mommy <3 you”. This absolute MANIAC killed my mother. That means I must live alone, I would go to the police, but these towns' police are crooked, they are paid off by some group of rich gangsters. That means I am screwed—absolutely screwed.

The First Encounter

About a week later after I grieved for my loss, I decided I should get back to work, and that’s exactly what I did. By that time there were 2 new homicides (not counting my mother's), some old farmer who had a pitchfork through his stomach, and some lady that had been scalped and her intestines had been taken out. After seeing these two horrific murders I decided to create some flyers, and on those flyers, it said “If in trouble call 765-325-2478" I spent the day placing these flyers all around the town I got to the last few flyers around 10 or 11 o'clock and by that time it was blacker than pitch, that’s when I had the feeling I was being watched. I walked more swiftly and started taking all sorts of turns until finally... I felt it, a man had grabbed me from behind, spun me around and put a gun to my head. I pleaded “please no god no I don’t want to die not-not li-” he pulled the trigger. It hurt for a second, just one quick second, then I realized it was fake, the gun was not real. I swung at him and struck him in the jaw, but he didn’t even move an inch, he stared at me and laughed. I struck him in the gut... again, nothing. He stared me straight in the soul. That's when I remembered, I had a knife in my back pocket. I grabbed as swiftly as I could and swung towards his neck in a hook motion. Hit. He coughed a little bit, that’s when I took my chance and ran, ran as fast and as far as I could. I didn’t stop running for hours, and then finally I passed out from exhaustion. I woke up hours later in the middle of a field. I didn’t know the location well, but I figured I could get home, and I was correct. After hours of navigating, I got back to a familiar road. The road that leads to Middletown. I walked down it, until I got to my road. Then I went to my house and ran upstairs and locked the door behind me. I then went to sleep so I could get the first proper rest for the first time in over 48 hours.

The Silence

After I woke up from my sleep, I checked my phone to see if I got any calls from my flyers, there was nothing. I then went and searched the town for any suspicious activities, there were none. I checked the news for any new victims, again, nothing. This town for the first time in a long time is normal, but that’s not a good thing. They say that if a serial killer stops killing, it means they are plotting something big, something that needs planning, and as far as I knew I was the only victim that escaped him- I outsmarted him- I made a fool of him, that had to make him furious. He is planning for me, he must be, so that means I must prepare, but in the meantime, I should enjoy the town while it's normal. I called my friends for the first time in forever, one of them was out riding his quad, like always, and the other... well their mom answered the phone. Turns out he was one of the victims that had died while I was gone,

I. must. Get. Revenge.

I then went to the nearby flea market since they don’t ask for ID for weapons. Once I got there, I pulled out a wad of money. It wasn’t much, it was only $45.73, I found three weapons to buy.

A tomahawk, a pocketknife, and a slingshot. I brought them up to the cashier, she took a double take and then asked “are you sure you're of age?” I gulped then managed to say “uh ye- yea I'm nine- nineteen" “I've heard that before, be careful” I take my weapons and swiftly walk out of the store, and then I push the pull door. How embarrassing. Once I get home, I grab a belt and some zip ties to make holsters for my weapons. I then went strolling late at night hoping he would turn up, but he never did, until I heard it; the sound of a dried-out twig snapping. I turned around and shouted “WHOS THERE!?”

The Terror Killer (TTK)

There he was, but something was different. He's huge now, at least seven feet. He had a weird vacuum sealed black bag over his head that made him look veiny, a torn-up janitor's outfit, and a long whip with blades all over it that he was dragging behind him. I froze. I had no clue what I could do, he was a monster. As he started walking towards me, I pleaded to him” if you're going to kill me, please make it quick, I'm late” he tilted his head and grumbled out the words “late for what?” I smirked and said “late for stopping The Terror Killer”. I reached and grabbed my tomahawk and cocked back my arm to throw it at him, at the same time he was getting ready to crack me with the whip. I knew I was going to die. Or at least- I thought I would. That’s when I threw the tomahawk, and it hit him, it hit him right in the middle of the chest. He dropped his whip and fell to his knees, he then pulled the tomahawk out of his chest and looked into my eyes. His eyes were hazel brown with a spot of blue in the left one, those are eyes I will never forget. I turned around and ran but this time I ran home. I locked the doors and grabbed the gun my mother stored in the safe. I remembered overhearing her mumble the combination as she was putting it in once, 72-31-42. I sat at the door and waited. I don’t know how long I was there, but it felt like years, until finally, I heard a knock. I opened the door and standing there was a girl scout, I asked them what they wanted, and told them they needed to get home. They said they wouldn’t leave unless I bought their cookies, but I just spent the last of my money so I made the tough decision to shut the door and wait. Of course they didn’t leave, so I then told them if they didn’t go home, I would call the police; of course I wouldn’t actually but I hoped it would make them leave, but these little brats just would not go away. I looked out my window down the road and saw him, the terror killer. I opened my door and told the kids to come in. They ran in asking what the man out there wanted. I told them about all that had happened and that they were in danger. I looked out the window and he was gone. Was it a hallucination? No, it couldn’t have been, the girls saw it too. I ran to every window in the house, but I didn’t see him through any of them. That’s when I heard footsteps upstairs. I backed the girls into the farthest corner from the stairway and I aimed my gun up the stairway. I've seen horror movies; I knew not to walk up. I waited for him to come down to me... but he never did. I decided to walk up slowly and cautiously, leading with my gun. I searched every room, but he wasn’t in any of them. Then I looked up to the attic door. I sighed then pulled the wire, and the ladder dropped down. I climbed up just enough to peak into the attic. I couldn’t see him, so I climbed up further. That’s when I saw him, behind a bookshelf. I shot him in the arm, and he let out a mumbled scream. I shot him once more and it hit him in the chest. He fell over and started whimpering. I walked over to him and pulled the mask off. He looked like an innocent man, he had blue eyes... That's when I remembered, brown eyes with a blue spot on the right one. This wasn’t the same guy. I shot a man for no reason. The man opened his mouth, and he didn’t have a tongue.

“Sh**.” I mutter under my breath. I turn around and there is one of the girls standing there in horror. “Double Sh**.” I say.

Laying Low

I had to ditch my house after those kids called the cops on me. I didn't have much choice; there was a human heart in the fridge and a dead guy in the attic. I built a small shack in a nearby wooded area, it's about 15 square feet big. It has been fourteen days since that night and each night there has been a new death. He has sped up his killing, and I am the top suspect. He is smart I will admit, but that isn't going to stop me from saving this town. It's dark now so I'm going to get wood for a fire because it hasn't stopped snowing for three days. I wind back my axe and chop at a small dead tree. I strike it twice more and it falls leaving a big boom echoing throughout the woods as it hits the ground. “xxxx-it.” I mutter. That was way louder than I expected it to be. I swing the axe a few more times and chop the tree into smaller pieces and I take them back to my shack. I start a small fire, just big enough to keep my shack warm and I go to sleep. I wake up to the sound of sirens and when I go outside I see four flashlights coming my way. I sprint the opposite direction realizing I'm running straight for town. I get to town and as soon as I step into an alleyway I fall to the floor. I think it's a mixture of having no breath left in my lungs and it just so happens that this is the alleyway where it all started. I looked around in a panic hoping I would see him. But I saw nothing but the leftover stain of blood on the wall. “What just happened?” asked a voice coming from further down the alleyway. “Nothing.” I say and then walk away.

Dead.

I decided to go back to my house and check if it's safe to go back yet. There are no cars in the driveway so I sneak around the back and go in. Once I'm in there, there is stuff all over the place. I go upstairs to check for a body but it's gone. I go back to the kitchen and grab whatever food I can find. I stuff it in my backpack and then I grab a few outfits. I then decided to shave my head. That way it's not as risky to walk around. I head back outside but this time I'm not going to go and hide. This time I'm going to end this hell. I see him. He’s standing at the end of the street next to a stop sign. “IM NOT SCARED OF YOU!” I scream. I run at him with my pocket knife in hand ready for any attack he throws at me. He is holding a hatchet so I have to be cautious. I swing my knife at him but all it does is cut through his jacket. I swing again this time in a stabbing motion right into his gut. I pull the knife out and blood starts pouring from the wound. He looks down at his stomach then back at me. “Sh**.” I say. He swings the hatchet and strikes me right in the shoulder. I drop my knife to the ground as he pulls the hatchet out of my shoulder. “I didn't come all this way to die to you!” I shout and then I lunge for the knife. I get the knife but as I'm standing back up he kicks me in the ribs and sends the knife flying into the grass. “Double sh**.” I say and then roll to avoid getting kicked again. He throws his hatchet and in the blink of an eye I go from staring at him to looking down on myself. I lost, but it's okay. The hard part is over. I watch as he sends the hatchet into my neck decapitating me. He puts my head into a bag and leaves. It's over.
