The Middletown Mansion
Three Months Later
Requite of A friend
There have been a lot of people disappearing in this town. It's been going on for long enough, and I am going to put an end to this madness. There have been over 20 deaths with the latest being my best friend who was trying to stop this killer. This time, things aren't going to go in the killers favor. This killer’s rain of terror will be over by the end of tonight, one way or another.
“Josh, Oh Josh! He’s gotten another, The little girl just down the street!” Shouts my mother from downstairs, I don't even have to ask who had gotten what, I know all too well. “Oh don't work yourself up dear, she probably just got lost on her way home from school.” My father bickers. I know he is trying to calm her down but I have the news on in my room and they are showing unblurred images of the area she went missing… There is hopscotch painted in blood on the ground. I head downstairs to get breakfast. “Listen mom, you need to turn the news off and get a hobby. He wants you to see what he's doing.” I say as I walk out the door to go to school with toast in my hand.
“Coming up behind you!” Shouts a familiar voice that is rapidly approaching. “Oh Shi–” A kid comes tumbling off his bike landing right in front of me. “Oh hey chuck.” I say. He stumbles back to his feet and picks up his bike. “Hey Josh.” He says pretending he didn't just scrape both of his elbows to hell. “Did you hear about Sara yet?” Asks Chuck “Yea, it's completely disgusting… I think- I think I'm going to try and put a stop to him.” “Jesus dude we are only 17, I don't think you know what he is capable of.” Says Chuck. “He has done too much damage already, this town deserves to be happy. It's been years…” I say. “Well I'm not going to let you die alone, do you have a plan on how we can stop him?” Chuck says. “Yea actually, I've been tracking all the locations of the killings, and at the centerpoint of all the killings there is a mansion that isn't under anyone's name but the electricity works.. I have a feeling that could be where he takes these people once he’s… Killed them.” I say “xxxx dude, sounds like you've been doing research, so what do you plan to do?” “I don't actually know yet, I just know we need to stop him.” I exclaim. “Listen, if you think we need to kill him, then that's what we will do. We can do this man.” Chuck says with pride. “Yea..” I say with hesitation.
We get to the school and things feel off, but things have felt off for a few years now so I brushed that feeling away. I go to my first period class which just so happens to be biology. The teacher is blabbering some nonsense about the molecular compounds of our brain, but I just can't stop thinking about the hopscotch they showed on the news. Why is he doing this? He has to know he can’t get away with it forever. “Josh— Josh!” “Yea?” “The principal wants to see you.” My teacher says with little patience in her voice. “xxxx-it” I mutter under my breath as I get up and head towards the door.
I get to the principal's office and when I get there there is no one in sight. I find this strange but I sit down assuming he will be here in a moment. After about ten minutes I see someone standing outside through the window so I get up to get a closer look. It's a tall man with a weird black bag covering his face, and a chain whip in hand. “Oh hell no.” I say as a stumble towards the door. Once I'm in the hallway I start heading in the direction of the class that Chuck is in. “Chuck, I'm sorry but we need to go… He’s here!” “Aww dude we are about to learn about Icarus.” “Chuck, Now!” “Fine dude here I come.” Chuck says with a whine behind his voice. We sprint towards one of the back exits. “Come on Chuck, we need to get out of here, I saw him…” We get to the exit but right as we get there he steps into vision. “Sh** Run!” Chuck screams as we both frantically turn around and sprint the opposite direction. “Go upstairs, quick!” I shout and we both quickly turn towards the stairs. “Dude going upstairs is how you die in horror movies.” Chuck says in a worried voice. “xxxx, you're right… Quick run to the other stairwell we need to get out of here.” We sprint for the other stairwell, then run back downstairs and out the nearest exit. We don't stop running until we make it to the nearby treeline. “Dude… What… The… Hell…” Chuck says in between breaths. “That was horrifying.” I say with a nervous chuckle.
The Mansion
We start to head towards my house so we can have a proper plan to deal with him. “What was the deal with those chains?” Chuck asks. “I don't know, but from what I’ve heard they are the main weapon he uses.” I say. “Well I don't like them.” Chuck says in a pouty tone. “Yea me neither Chuck, me neither.” We get to my house and walk through the front door. “AHHH OH MY GOD I THINK I HEARD THE KILLER!” My mom screams. “Just me mom, sorry!” “Chuck? Chuck honey, you cant start skipping school because of what has been going on in this town. It's been scary for all of us, but you don't see me or your father stopping our everyday lives because of it.” Yea obviously you didnt stop your everyday life, you are a stay at home mom; Is what I want to say. “I know mom, it's just… I'm sorry I'll go to my room.” I say in a tone of defeat.
We head up to my room where Chuck finally asks “Are your parents okay?” “Honestly, I don't think so.. They were really close with my friend who was hunting the killer a few months ago.” “xxxx man, so you've been hafting to deal with that everyday sense he passed?” Chuck asks. “Yea, it's not as bad as you think, anyway like I said earlier, I think I know where this guy lives.” I exclaim to change the subject. I point to a spot on a map. “Right here.” I say. “Thats only a few miles from here.” Chuck points out. “Yea im planning to go there tonight, I already have a whole arsenal of weapons.” I open my closet door revealing 3 guns, a sword, and a whip. “Interesting choice of weapons.” Chuck says. “Listen, I got the sword and whip just in case he's like immune to bullets or something.” I say. “So you think he's a superhero or something?” Chuck asks. “He’s definitely not a hero..” I say. “Look, the sun's going down, we need to be prepared.” I say. I toss Chuck a backpack with a holster and he inserts the whip into it. “Wow dude you make fun of my weird weapons and it's your go to choice.” I say while chuckling. “I don't know man, it seems cool.” I laugh that off as I grab the katana and two guns, putting them in their respective spots on the bag. “Here take a gun” I say as I toss a pistol to Chuck. “Jesus dude careful, is that thing loaded.” Chuck whines. “Yes, obviously the gun is loaded Chuck.” I say sarcastically.
We head downstairs and go outside. “Alright, it's about a 30 minute walk from here.” I tell Chuck. “Oh boy.” Chuck says. After about 25 minutes of walking we get to a long winding driveway surrounded by trees. “I think this is the place.” I exclaim. “Yeah, it looks like it.” Chuck says with a shallow voice. “Dont worry chuck, all we need to do is sneak into the house and hide and wait for him to come home; same as he does his victims.” “And how do you know he isn't home right now?” Chuck asks. “I just do Chuck, come on.” We get to the mansion and sneak around back. He has a pool and as we step closer we see something in the pool. Its hundreds of bloodied up chains, some with razors. “Yea you weren't lying, they are his main weapon.” Chuck points out nervously. “Hurry, come on.” I say in a whisper.
I open the sliding door and we sneak inside. It sounds quiet so we continue. We decide that the attic will be the best place to wait. When we get to the attic, it is a large room full of big crates and lots of black bags like the one he had on his face. The rest of his house is surprisingly upkept other than the pool. “Lets hide in this crate here.” Chuck says as he opens a crate to reveal hundreds of human fingerprints– yes literally just the prints. “Seems like the best place we got.” I say. We crawl inside and close the box up where we now sit, face to face. “You know, despite the circumstances, I've really been enjoying today.” Chuck says with a wholesome smile on his face. “Yea sure.” I say with a smirk to match his energy. Just then Chuck decides it would be a great idea to see if my lips taste different than his.
The stranger meets the end
“Chuck xxxxxxxxxxxxx are you even doing?!” I say vigorously whilst attempting to push him off of me. He looks at me all innocently and says “I'm sorry dude, I thought we were roleplaying.” “Do something like that again and it'll be you on the news. We are here to stop a serial killer, not to enact your weird fantasies.” I demand. It's quiet for a while before I notice Chuck quietly whimpering to himself. “Chuck, what reason do you have to be crying right now?” I ask. “Well I just shot my shot at my crush and got rejected in the most humiliating way.” Chuck strikes his words out in between sobs. “Look man, I don't have anything against you, I'm just not.. Like that..” I say. A loud bang from below interrupts our conversation. “Shh, I think he's here.” I exclaim in a whisper.
Chuck opens the crate and exits very audibly. “Chuck, what are you doing?” I whisper, scream. He goes down stairs with his sword in one hand and his gun in the other. “Oh my god.” I mutter as I hesitantly follow him. We sneak down stairs and peek around a corner into the kitchen. There he is, standing at the table, black bag and all. We look down a corridor in the opposite direction and see a woman crouched in the shadows. I squint and realize it's someone I recognize from school. I nudge Chuck to look over at her. “xxxxxxxxxxxxx?” He whispers very faintly. We sneak over to her and I ask “Are you hurt?” She lets out a sob and I hear a noise coming from the kitchen. “We need to leave now.” Chuck says. I pull Jesse up by her arm and we run to the door which is luckily the opposite direction of the kitchen. We all scramble outside and run into the surrounding woods.
“How did you get in there Jesse?” “I- I don't know, I was walking to school this morning and I noticed that guy following me. Everything went black and I woke up here. I wanna go home.” She says falling into my arms. “I'm sorry but right now your home is no safer than this place is.” I say while caressing her upper back. She starts to cry into my chest. “Why is he doing this?” Jesse asks. “I don't really know, I've been studying him for a while and he has no killing patterns… I'm thinking maybe he could have multiple personalities or schizophrenia.. I guess we can ask him when we catch him.” I say. “What? You are planning to go back into that hell hole?” Jesse asks. “Yea, actually I wanted to ask if you would go back in with us?” I ask in a rushed tone. “With what weapon exactly?” She asks. I pull out my second pistol and hand it to her. “I cannot believe you right now.” she sighs while rolling her eyes. “Wait, why didn't either of you use these when he was rushing at us?” she asks. Chuck and I look at each other then back at her. “I guess our minds were in other places after finding you and all.” I say, but that isn't the truth. “Oh yea that makes sense, well are we gonna kill this bastard or what?” She asks with excitement. “Well that's the emotion we need, let's go kill him.” I say. “Wait guys, let's make a plan. I'm thinking Jesse you go in through the front, and me and Josh will sneak through the back.” Says Chuck. “Uhh okay sure” says Jesse.
We part ways, Jesse heading towards the front and we are heading towards the back. “What's up with you, you've been weird since we ran into Jesse.” I ask. “I don't know man I just thought this was gonna be a me and you thing.” Chuck says. “First of all it's ‘you and I’ and second, anyone who is willing to help is going on this adventure. This isn't some fantasy date, we are attempting murder on a serial killer. Now can you PLEASE keep your mind focused, or go home. You’ve been more of a liability than anything.” I demand.
Just like that I hear a snap in the bushes behind us. I swiftly turn with my gun drawn and I pull the trigger nearly missing the figure. I focus my vision to see Jesse standing there with a face of horror. “Oh my god Jesse, I'm so sorry I thought you were the killer, Are you o-”Chuck’s gay?!” She gasps. All of the sudden a chain whip wraps around her neck shredding the skin like a turkey. The whip whips back, severing her head from her body as a result. Chuck fires his gun four times into the darkness, and we hear the chain rattling in the distance going the opposite direction. “Come on, we need to get him before he escapes.” Chuck says while basically dragging me into the darkness of the woods.
We follow the sound of the chains until we come to a steep slope. The masked schizophrenic turns around and winds his whip back. I aim my sights directly at his trashbag shaped head and pull the trigger. He falls to the ground. “Holy sh** we did it! We actually killed him! We saved this town dude, we are heroes!” Chuck exclaims with excitement. “Jesse..” I whimper. “We need to go save Jesse!” I yelp. “Dude she's dead.” Chuck says. “No! Come on, we need to be quick, I can save her!” I say while pulling Chuck back to where she was last seen. “Dude no offense but you're no prince charming, you can't kiss her back to life.” Chuck says. “Shes. Not. Dead.” I say. “Okay dude, whatever helps you cope.” Chuck says. We get to her lifeless body. Her head. Her head is two feet away from the rest of her body. Her eyes are still pleading for help. “See dude I told you, she’s dead.” “No. She’s not dead. Now didn't I tell you to keep your mind focused on the mission?!.” I sputtered. I turn around to see Chuck. He looks afraid. “Chuck, help her.” I sputter. “Dude.. I-” He starts to cry. “You are so useless Chuck.” I say while slowly raising my gun to aim at Chuck's forehead. “Dude wait, I’ll help you save her, look i can-” Chuck emits his final words. I pull the trigger to end his life. I pick up Jesse’s lifeless decapitated body and carry it back to the mansion. I lay her on the kitchen table. “Dont worry Jesse I'll save you!” I exclaim in a happy broken tone.
