The Message Received

I don't know what I had expected when I brought my new fiance to the cemetary where my son was laid. It was cold and covered in snow.

I remembered how sad I was, actually mad, that my dear boy was going to be here all by himself. There was a small tree close by but that was all. This was a new section added to the cemetary. It was at least a nice day when he was brought here. I came back each summer and was so thankful that others were beginning to fill some of the spaces around him. They planted a few more trees also. From then on I stopped going to the cemetary since I felt he wasn't really alone any longer. Besides, my son was with me all the time anyway. He was always in my heart, in my thoughts and I often felt his presence.

Today was different. I needed to know it was ok for me to remarry. My son used to alway tell me this is right, that's not, it's o.k. I needed to feel that today. I needed something to tell me I was making the right move.

Let me get back to my fiance and I going to the cemetary. He had never been here before but if we didn't do anything else today I wanted him to see where my son was resting. It was a cold winter day. Christmas wreaths and flowers were peaking out from under the deep fallen snow. There were no large grave stones allowed in this section, only flat ones. My son's stone was beautifully etched with a drawing he himself had done. I was excited for my fiance to see it.

We pulled the car as close to the location as I could recall. Oh my! Things looked so different with snow covering everything. There were more trees than I remembered and it appeared no one had been here for some time, including me. Where should I direct us to go. I think by that tree over there. No wait, maybe that one. I just was not sure and began to panic. Where are you my boy?

As I stood fretting over where we should go, my fiance reassured me he would find the right place. He asked me to wait while he made a pathway through the snow. I watched as he walk quite confidently through the knee deep white blanket and suddenly stopped. He bent down and ran his hands across the ground moving the snow away. Looking up he waved me to come. Low and behold he was standing at the foot of my son's grave. Not on it, at the foot. With a tear in his eye he announced.,'Your son and I have just met"!

I believe this was the message received. It's o.k. mom, it's o.k.
