THE FOUR GREAT JAYS

THE FOUR GREAT JAY’S

By M. A. QAIYUM

Location- CHENNAI.

Four friends Jayashree, Jayaraj, Jenkins, and Jafar Bhai. From college mates to job seekers. Independent thinkers.

Pledged to meet as often as possible in Jafarbhai’s house or in the open in Marina Beach of Chennai, after office hours.

One evening in JB’s house, the four friends meet

JB: All four are welcome. Behan Bhai. The light of our eyes. Welcome. Today. And every day,

ALL: (Amid clapping:) Very good. The Hero is still acting shy.

JB: There is one person here who is close to him like a sister who shares his secrets……..

Jenkins: I was the first to be informed. So, here it is. The guy who was most vehement in denying the news. Today he is here to accept the truth. He is getting married.

All: (Amid clapping:) Very good. Very good. We must have Biriyani right away.

Jayashree: No. Not tonight. On the next payday, OK.

Jenkins: Friends, Tamilians, Countrymen, I rise to defend Jayaraj. Not to harass him.

The marriage a person enters, makes other men to be jealous of him. So let it be with Jayaraj. The noble guy has agreed to fete us Biriyani. But I have counseled him to wait and fete us on his wedding day

The Day One of a man’s embracing economy in every rupee he needs to spend.

All: (in one voice) You are a Miser Number One. A Spoilsport.

JAYARAJ: All my friends, please take things easy. I was planning to surprise you. Actress Indrani Devi and her troupe, are the most popular song and dance team in Tamil cinema today. They will perform at my wedding and we will all be photographed with them.

All: Great. Just great.

JAYARAJ: My father-in-law being a leading Tailor, will be gifting suits to all of us and my mother-in-law has already purchased two beautiful silk sarees for Jayashree ji while buying the bridal robes.

All: (in one voice): You are a lucky guy, man, most lucky. We congratulate you.

JB opened his safe and took out and handed around three tickets to the next Sunday’s Cricket Match in the Chepauk Stadium between India and West Indies.

Jayashree gave her sincere thanks and JB and Jenkins jumped on him and embraced him with gusto.

Their next meeting was in a Parking lot . All four came out and got into a remodeled Jeep that was parked there.

JB explained: The last few days she has done wonders and saved our honor.

As everybody raises his/her right hand, demanding full revelation, Jayashree rises and restores order.

Jayashree: My brothers, I am the Honorary Consultant to all of you here. Except Jafar Bhai. My house is nearest to Jeyaraj’s. We are like one family. His family have rented the upper storey of a house in a street next to ours.

JB: Oh, Bhai look! It is not a big deal. What happened with Jayaraj is not fair. He has the right to marry whoever he loves.

Jenkins: Yesterday a mutual friend came to my house and almost dragged me to Jayaraj’s house and we went to the police and recorded a complaint against the family owning the house occupied by Jayaraj and his family.

It seems their girl had grown to like Jayaraj and hook him somehow. But Jayaraj was in real love with Shanta and their marriage had been arranged already. And when their betrothal had been announced and the marriage arrangements were in full swing, the girl got annoyed and her brother Ravi, who was connected with a notorious leader had waylaid him and beaten him. It was lucky that some pedestrians had spotted them and freed Jayaraj.

A first class crime had being taking place and Jafar bhai’s group was up to the neck in saving Jayaraj and getting the assailant to be arrested. It was lucky Jayashree’s mother was a social worker and the criminals couldnot get the police to withdraw the case.

All is well that ends well.

The rowdies are behind bars and Jafar Bhai and his friends triumphed.
