The Flood
The Flood, my brood! Water o'er wood! If I could, she surely should? Understood...
Downpour, you never did stop, and people are getting scared. One building after the next, popping under the rising surface in a flash. A man was pulled out of his sister's hands and sucked downward, never to be seen again; a woman had had no more breath in her and had not reached the surface in time, and had floated by horrified onlookers. Heros, you were nowhere to be seen, and she was beautiful. What was the point, O Fate? Alligator, thy bait. Aching heart of lover denied, thy wait. Death, thy quickening pace. Kill, krait. Kraken, reach up with tentacle and yank below with speed. The rain fell like the tears of a poet, unceasing and heedless of fear and sorrow. Rescuers, get in thy boats and go! No tomorrow, beggar! Borrow! The rain-coated smilers were not in town that day; grimaces plastered each face, and grey cities leered at smoky skies through tall towers ugly and vast. Blue neon sign, were you put here to send us some message? Passage, vassal? Quahog, will you teach us to breathe under the water? We have forgotten...
